The Digital Media Program at ETSU was recognized as the winner among five universities presenting at the International Digital Media and Arts Association Student Showcase for work that demonstrates excellence and innovation in the digital media arts. The exhibition and competition was held on October 13, 2011 in Savannah, GA at the 2011 iDMAa Conference.
Three works from ETSU were presented in the showcase: “Finger Fight,” a short visual effects film created by Joel Gerlach, Harrison Heib, Richard Johnson and Matt Tabor; “An Op Art Experiment in Sacred Geometry,” a light box construction by Chris Zidek, and “Jonesborough,” a projected watercolor in motion by Patrick Adkins. Other universities presenting were SUNY Oswego, Washington State University at Vancouver, University of Houston/Clearwater, and Champlain College.
The Student Showcase, an annual event at the iDMAa Conference each fall, is an opportunity for programs to recognize students who are pushing the conceptual and technical boundaries of digital art and design. The entries are judges by members of the iDMAa Industry Advisory Board and a program award is given to recognize the program whose student work best exemplifies both excellence and innovation.
